France: Songs presented for public voting

The selection process in France has gone public for the first time since 2007. Three artists were revealed in contention last November and today their songs are presented to the public and are now open to voting. A special program Les Chansons D’Abord was designed around Natasha St -Pier’s (4th place finish in ESC 2001) Sunday show dedicated to Eurovision Song Contest.

The process began when broadcaster France 3 put together a listening committee of 14 people ranging from music industry professionals, representatives of France Télévisions and their partner France Bleu. The artists chosen as potential representatives and their songs are:

DestanSans Toi (Without you)

Twin Twin Moustache

Joanna LagraveMa Liberté (My freedom)

In the special program Les Chansons D’Abord Marie Myriam (ESC 1977 winner), Anggun (ESC 2012), and Amaury Vassili (ESC 2011) recount highlights from the competition and perform their past entries.

This year, the final results of the public and a professional jury are combined accounting for 50% of the vote each. To take part in the voting procedure:

– For téléphone dial 32 45 (0,34€/MIN+cost depending upon operator)

– For SMS, text 1, 2 or 3 to 7 3003 (2×0,65€+price of SMS)

Recaps of the participating songs to appeal for the vote will be broadcast daily on France 3 and for four weeks starting from the 26th of January, ending on the 23rd of February. And on Sunday 2nd March at 17:00 CET the winner will be announced by Natasha St -Pier on France 3 via Les Chansons D’Abord.
