After 100 or more songs were submitted in Macedonia, broadcaster MRT decided to opt for Dance Alone. You can listen to Jana Burčeska’s Eurovision song below.
Jana Burčeska was internally selected by MRT in November. She has stated many times that she is aware of the pressure on her, because FYR Macedonia has not qualified for the Grand Final since 2012. Jana is a very experienced performer, having been in the first edition of Skopje Fest.
This song is an up tempo disco song, standing out from the many ballads chosen so far. It is very modern, something that would fit in the UK top 40 or the itunes charts. Jana’s vocal’s are broad, but she does not use a lot of her singing range. The arrangement for this song is relatively flat. Nevertheless, this will really get the audiences up on their feet in Kiev.
FYR Macedonia at Eurovision
FYR Macedonia’s best result came in 2006, when Elena Risteska sang Ninanajna, she ended up 12th. Since then, they have only made it to the Grand Final once. This was in 2012 when Kaliopi qualified with “Crno i Belo”. Last year in Stockholm, Kaliopi tried to bring Macedonia back to the final again, but she just missed out of qualification. Her song “Dona” finished 11th with 88 points.
