Germany: Roman Lob wins “Unser Star Für Baku”

Roman Lob has won the German casting show “Unser Star Für Baku” over opponent Ornella de Santis. He will sing the song “Standing Still” for his country at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Roman (21) comes from Neuwied in the west of Germany, not far from the cities of Cologne and Frankfurt. Apart from music, one of his hobbies is Downhill mountain biking aswell as playing the piano and drums. His favourite singers are Xavier Naidoo, Lionel Richie, and his biggest music legend is Alicia Keys, who he would like to meet in the future. Roman also took part in season four of “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” (DSDS, German Pop Idol) at the age of 16 in 2007. He made it to the live shows, however could not perform due to illness.

Throughout the series of “Unser Star Fur Baku”, Roman consistently gained large amounts of televotes on each show. He performed songs from artists and bands such as Justin Nozuka, “Train”, James Morrison and “Kings of Leon”.

“Standing Still” has been written by a British team consisting of jazz singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum as well as two of the most successful songwriter from the UK – Steve Robson and Wayne Hector. The song is also avaliable from German iTunes now – as well as the other songs performed by Roman and Ornella in the final; “Quietly”, “Alone” and “Conflicted”. The official video for the song will also be out on Tuesday.
