Greece: Maria Elena Kiriakou wins A MAD Show

The Greek national final “Eurosong 2015” has just taken place and the winner this year is Maria Elena Kiriakou with the song “One Last Breath”. She came out on top over four other competitors to win the Greek ticket to Vienna.

Maria is the current reigning champion of The Voice Greece and co-wrote her Eurovision entry “One Last Breath”. The result this evening was decided by an expert jury and viewers votes. The show in Greece tonight was an uptempo and high energy show, something that can usually be expected from Greece but it was in fact the only ballad in the competition which won over the viewers this evening. The song is a Disney-style ballad, similar to something from the mid 90’s. This is the first time Greece have sent a ballad to Eurovision since Anna Vissi took to the Eurovision stage in her home country in 2006.

The show tonight also saw performances from previous Eurovision participants Helena Paparizou, Loukas Giorkas, and Cypriot boyband One. Greece will perform in the first half of the first semifinal to be held on the 19th of May in Vienna. What do you think of the Greek entry this year? We love to hear your comments, and also don’t forget to check back at ESCDaily later tonight for the exclusive reveal of the very first ever Australian Eurovision entry within the next couple of hours.
