Iceland: Greta Salóme will go to Stockholm

The grand final of Songvakeppnin 2016 has just concluded and this year’s winner is Greta Salome with the song “Hear Them Calling”. She will now go on to represent Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm this May.

In the superfinal of the competition, she beat out competition from Alda Dís Arnardóttir who took the runner up prize. The show tonight saw special guest performances from 1986 Eurovision winner Sandra Kim, as well as 2012 winner Loreen. Greta is no stranger to Eurovision, having previously represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku in 2012. She also has composed many songs which have taken part in the Songvakeppnin competition over the years including two of this year’s finalists.

She will be looking to improve on last year’s representative Maria Olafs who failed to make the grand final for Iceland for the first time since 2007.
