Ieva Zasimauskaitė wins the Lithuanian ticket to Lisbon

Ieva Zasimauskaitė has won the Lithuanian marathon preselection final with her song ‘When We’re Old’ and will perform that song at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon. She takes part in the first semi final.

It has been a long, long road for Ieva Zasimauskaitė, who has been a favourite in the competition in Lithuania from the very first heat on the 6th of January. Every time she performed in one of the shows, she was always the winner of the combined jury and televote result. In our preview article, she was also tipped as the one to beat tonight.

In the grand final in Lithuania, she kept of competition from Paula Valentaite, who was a finalist last year as well. Jurgis Brūzga and Monika Marija also gave tough competition, coming in second and third place in Vilnius.

Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest

Prior to the 2018 Contest, Lithuania had participated in the Eurovision Song Contest eighteen times since its first entry in 1994. The nation’s best placing in the contest was sixth. Which it achieved in 2006 with the song “We Are the Winners” performed by LT United. But perhaps, Ieva will finally erase that result?

In 2015 and 2016, Lithuania made it to the Eurovision final. In Stockholm, Donny Montell even reached a top-10 position. Last year in Kiev, Fusedmarc failed to qualify with “Rain of Revolution”.
