Junior Eurovision: What to expect from ESC Daily?

Today marks the first day of the 2016 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Malta, Valletta. Australia is present for the second time and the same goes for Team ESC Daily. What can you expect from us during this week?

Alexa Curtis

This 12-year-old girl from Brisbane will represent Australia during JESC 2016. ESC Daily will follow her every move during this week, from Opening Ceremony through rehearsals until the final show on Sunday. Last year, Bella Paige brought us a beautiful 8th place debut, can Alexa reach even higher?

The Australian delegation has already arrived in Valletta earlier this week, while other delegations such as the Italians and the Israelis arrived yesterday.

manoel-theatreOpening Ceremony

Tonight (Monday) at the Manoel Theatre, the opening ceremony will take place. The Manoel Theatre has been in use since 1732. It is the oldest operating theatre in the Commonwealth.

The event tonight starts at 18:15 CET and is hosted by Taryn Mamo Cefai. Participants will come down the red carpet and draw lots for the running order. Livestream is available HERE.

ESC Daily is present to cover the running order news and make a small reportage about the entire celebration. Last year, we made the following video in Sofia:

Rehearsal coverage

Rehearsals will start on Tuesday and ESC Daily will cover them in the way you are used to from us: with two blogs running at the same time. One liveblog, in which you can follow quick and live updates about all the news and everything that is going on at the press center, and one rehearsal blog, where videos from all the rehearsals are gathered and discussed. The liveblog is for quick news, the rehearsal blog is for in-depth coverage of what we can see on the screens here.

Daily Coffee

Of course, we start the day with our famous podcast Daily Coffee. However, the format is slightly different as the host of the show, Dennis van Eersel, unfortunately could not travel to Valletta. Instead, he phones chief editor Steef van Gorkum every morning for a quick update about the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the latest developments around Australia, and of course a taste of the Maltese coffee! The first episode of Daily Coffee was already recorded this morning, listen below:

We are expecting a great week here in Valletta, with enthusiastic people and strong performances. Accreditations are in the pocket, so “We Are” ready for it – and so is Alexa Curtis! Bring on JESC2016! We from Team ESC Daily have already decorated our apartment in the appropriate colours:
