Latvia: Edgars Kreilis surprisingly eliminated in Supernova

Edgars Kreilis has been eliminated in the Latvian preselection Supernova. This is a slight surprise, since he was the winner of a new feature this season, a ranking based on the Spotify streams.

After two introduction shows, Supernova officially got underway in Riga on Sunday night (5th February).  LTV are looking for an act to follow in the footsteps of Justs, and represent them in Kiev. 11 entries took to the stage all looking to book a spot in the semi final.

With only 4 places available in the semi final, the competition in Riga was intense. The 11 competing artists and songs were as follows, the qualifiers are listed in bold:

  • Linda Leen – Who Is In Charge?
  • Katrīna Cīrule – Blood Runs Quicker
  • Anna Zankovska – Rage Love
  • Lauris Valters – Magic Years
  • Edgars Kreilis – We Are Angels
  • First Question – Naked
  • Miks Dukurs –Spiritual Priest
  • Pikaso – U (Can Keep Your Cools)
  • Crime Sea – Escape
  • Franco Franco – Up
  • Rock ‘n’ Berries – Feel The Love

Going through are Lauris Valters. Franco Franco, Linda Deen and Miks Dukurs. Some surprise qualifiers from tonight, so the highest spotify streaming song from tonight, Edgars Kreilis didn’t make it through.

This time, not only will the qualifiers be judged on their performances by the juries and the televoting public, but the Spotify streaming figures will also play a major factor in who qualifies for the next round.

Spotify streaming figures from shows 1 and 2 of Supernova

The Spotify viewing figures clearly show that previous Supernova participant Markus Riva clearly in the lead, but Lauris Valters who sung Magic Years had the biggest listener increase.

  1. Very interesting analysis.

I wonder if you did Spotify data collection yourself or got it from somewhere else.
