22:05 Green Room
After having listened to all the finalists we go back to green room again to speak to the rest of the participants.
21:58 Daði Freyr Pétursson – Is this love?
Daði just like Svala avoids any changes coming with two backing vocalists on one side and three more backing musicians in the other side. They are all in green t-shirts and are presenting a pop song with electronic sounds. Daði himself is also playing keytar. In the backdrops are displayed the cartoon version of the musicians on stage, which are also featured on their green t-shirts.
21:53 Svala – Paper
The most familiar name of the night -Svala seems to be one of those completely sticking to her last staging. She comes alone on stage dressed all in white with high platform shoes delivering her pop song Paper with electronic vibes.
21:48 Rúnar Eff Rúnarsson – Make your way back home
Rúnar’s performance does not change: He is in a different outfit from that of the semeifinal but still very similar and simple outfit. He brings his pop ballad with slight rock influences about homesickness accompanied by four backing vocalists. The acoustic guitar is as the most influential instrument. Rúnar is also the author of his own song.
21:43 Hildur – Bammbaramm
Hildur after being eliminated at semifinals and reaching final only by getting the wildcard, brings some changes into her performance. Hildur appears on stage in a violet sparkly outfit instead of the pink hood and silver shorts. Besides she has sneakers with lights just like Doly Style sneakers of their last year’s Melodifestivalen performance for “Rollercoaster”. From half of the song her dancers accompany her with the same outfit like last time, however Hildur has reduced the number of her dancers from three to two. A big part of her visual – the big red heart is present this time as well. Hildur is the author of her own song. “Bammbaramm” seems like a mid-tempo pop, but they are using very interesting and original instrumentation: there are electronic sounds combined with bells, eccentric percussion, and a xylophone.
Right after the green room and the talk with the artists there is a short commercial break after which Hildur will perform her song.
21:32 Green room
We are following the green room where the host is talking to the participants that have already performed their songs.
21:27 Aron Brink – Hypnotised
Aron’s performance does not differ much from his semifinal staging. Hypnotised is an up-tempo cheerful pop song with xylophone sounds in the beginning. At some expense this song can be compared with SaRaha’s Kizunguzungu from Melodifestivalen last year. As mentioned last time, the song for Aron Brink has been written my Michael James Down, who has written many Eurovision preselection songs in recent years, this year also the song for MIHAI in Romania. Aron this time also comes in a white suit with a hood and sneakers and is dancing while performing along with his four dancers and backing vocalists.
21:21 Arnar Jónsson & Rakel Pálsdóttir – Again
The duet with a low-tempo ballad is up next. After the first chorus of the song we can hear percussion. We don’t see the black and white screen at the beginning of the song like we did last time. The other change of the staging from that of the semifinal is Rakel’s dress. Instead of the long dark green dress, she is wearing a similar black dress. Whereas Arnar is dressed in suit again.
21:14 Aron Hannes Emilsson – Tonight
Aron, who was the last to sing in the semifinal, is opening the show tonight. He appears in different outfit from that of the last time. He is wearing black leather trousers, black shirt and a white coat. In backdrops also we see him in that very outfit. His cap is missing. Aron’s song is a pop song with lots of electronic sounds and can be compared to Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Fire in the rain”. He delivers the song while dancing along with his two interpretive dancers.
21:12 Voting rules
The host is reminding the voting rules of tonight as well as adds that among the international jury is sitting also Måns Zelmerlöw from Sweden who won eurovision in 2015.
21:08 Greta Salóme – Hear Them Calling
Greta who represented Iceland last year in Stockholm is opening tonight’s final with her eurovision entry. In Stockholm Greta didn’t make to the final show taking the fourth place with 51 points in the first semifinal.
21:06 Actual Start
We are back from the commercial with the introduction of tonight’s participants.
After a 15 min discussion of hosts talking about Eurovision as well as a little talk with tonight’s participants in the backstage, the actual start of the show is to hit after a short commercial.
Among the six participants of tonight we will listen to Svala, who is the most well known name in the competition. She mostly came to fame after scoring a bit hit in Iceland in 2001, called The Real Me. From 2006 up to now she is also a member of the Icelandic band called Steed Lord along with two brothers Demo and Mega, who is now Svala’s husband. After joining the band Svala has taken a stage name Kali.
