Live: Lithuania picks artist for ‘This Time’

Lithuania rounds up a long lasting preselection tonight. In the grand final, the artist for Vienna will be chosen. Thanks to last week’s song final, we already know that the song is called ‘This Time’.

There are three artists competing for the ticket to Vienna, but two of them have teamed up to represent their country together:

  • Vaidas Baumila & Monika Linkyté
  • Mia

You can watch the show through THIS link, which will open in a new window. In our liveblog below, live commentary is provided. The first update will appear on top!

***
21:40 – Vaidas Baumila and Monika Linkyté return on stage. They will sing ‘This Time’ in Vienna! Take a look at the Lithuanian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 below:

***
21:32 – The jury has given Vaidas and Monika 10 points, and Mia 5. Televoters have also changed their minds and now have the duo in the lead. Looks like this is it!

***
21:24 – As the jury will make up their minds, the Swiss artist for ESC 2015 is now on stage. Melanie with ‘Time to shine’. Results in Lithuania coming in a couple of minutes.

***
21:21 – Wow. A sudden big change in the televoting results. The duo is now only 700 votes away from Mia, who has been leading all evening. Will it be Vaidas and Monika to Vienna after all?

***
21:14 – Mia is still leading the televote, with 10000 votes now, 2500 more than Vaidas and Monika. The duo is now performing ‘This Time’. And they are doing a better job than Mia, in my opinion. Their best performance of the night so far, during their potential Eurovision-song. Will the jury see this and try to change the way the televoters have been deciding so far?

***
21:05 – The show resumes after a short break. The artists will now perform the Eurovision-song ‘This Time’. Mia will give it a try, and her is the potential problem of this format, when being used for Eurovision. Mia, leading the televoting by far, gives her worst performance of the night with this song, originally written for Vaidas Baumila. Lithuania might have a problem if Mia needs to go to Vienna with this song. She has created a hippy-flow with her performance, a totally different image compared to her other performances…

***
20:53 – ‘Tiktai tu’ is the next song by Vaidas Baumila and Monika Linkyté. They are looking for a miracle to get the televoters back on their side. I doubt if they will change their minds with this dull performance.

***
20:45 – The jury has only nice comments for Mia, who is now leading the televoting with a landslide, ahead of Vaidas and Monika performing together. But with the jury-votes and the performances of the Eurovision-song, things may still change?

***
20:38 – Mia is up again, singing ‘Take a look at me now’ in a beautiful white dress and stage. For some Eurovision-fans, it remains a mystery why the artists are still singing other songs, but Eurovizija is a big hit in Lithuania, and each artist in the final wants to show their diversity once again.

***
20:33 – The first televoting “results”. Mia is leading the vote as solo-artist, with a potential duet between Vaidas and Monika in second place. Everything can still happen though in the next 1,5 hour to go.

***
20:28 – Latvian band PeR is back with their new song ‘Smile’ as surprise act in Lithuania. They represented the neighbour-country of Lithuania in 2013 at the Eurovision Song Contest, opening the second semi-final, failing to reach the final. Latvia will select their ESC-act for 2015 tomorrow night, the final of Supernova can be followed at ESC Daily as well.

***
20:15 – Vaidas and Monika already performed ‘This Time’ together earlier in Eurovizija 2015. ‘Saulés Pédomis’ is the song they are performing now. A nice ballad in the Lithuanian languae we rarely hear at Eurovision.

***
20:08 – Mia is the first artist on stage. She is singing the song ‘Dangerous’ which has been eliminated last week already. Her vocals are just as good as the ast couple of weeks in the show. It is no wonder she is in the final. However, we need to wait to see and hear her perform the real deal tonight.

***
20:00 – The show has begun, the hosts are introducing the jury and the three remaining artists. The composer of the song ‘This Time’ has asked LRT to let the artists also perform some duets of the song. So there is a chance that several of the remaining artists may go to Vienna.

***
19:45 – Vaidas’ demo version

The winning song ‘This Time’ was originally written for and recorded by Vaidas Baumila. This is no guarantee for him to win tonight, but when Lithuania used the same selection process last year, winner & song turned out to be a match. You can listen to Vaidas’ studio version of the song below.
