Good evening Europe! Welcome to this year’s Melodi Grand Prix, the Norwegian competition for Eurovision Song Contest. Tonight it’s the first semi-final of MGP and it’s held in Ørland. After last year’s disappointment result in Eurovision, the Norwegian broadcaster is taking MGP with seriousness. To make a quick recap, there are going to be performing eight semi-finalists tonight, where only three will be qualifying for the Grand Final.

Song 1: Irresistible – Elevator

Irresistible are first to hit the stage tonight with their catchy tune ‘Elevator’. The girls have great energy on stage tonight and their performance has impressive choreography with great syncopation. The performance is a great start to the show!

Song 2: Kim André Rysstad – Så vidunderlig

Act two tonight is Kim André Rysstad with his ballad ‘Så vidunderlig’! Kim has a great voice and his vocals are very strong tonight, in fact they carry the performance. This may be a bit unforgettable being between two upbeat songs, but the Norwegian audience may like this song!

Song 3: Reidun Sæther – High on love

Song three has an ‘all-star’ team behind it, as the song has been written by G:Son and Ovi!!! The song is very catchy and full of energy and Reidun looks great on stage in her purple gown! This is quite typical pop music from the region, but this is a fan favourite and deserving of a spot in the MGP final!

Song 4: Rudi Myntevik – You break it, you own it

Rudi is now on stage for our fourth MGP entry tonight titled ‘You break it, you own it’. This is a band song, and the presentation isn’t anything too special, but Rudi gives a good vocal performance. However, the song is a bit forgettable in the lineup.

Song 5: Lisa Stokke – With love

Lisa is next on stage and she hits the stage with her uptempo ballad ‘With Love’. Lisa is wearing a gold gown and her vocals are strong tonight! Lisa is on stage with several backing singers, who compliment her vocals well tonight.

Song 6: United – Little Bobbi

The next song tonight is by the group ‘United’, which features singer Benedicte Adrian, who first took part in MGP in 1984. Joining her are rapper Sirius and singer Haji, and together they perform the upbeat song ‘Little Bobbi’. The song is full of energy, and the choreography of the song is quality. This has been one of the better performances for tonight!

Song 7: Nora Foss Al-Jabri – Somewhere beautiful

Young performer Nora Foss Al-Jabri is next with her entry ‘Somewhere beautiful’. Nora is elegant on stage tonight and her strong vocals add to the performance. Nora is wearing a blue dress and is joined by a violinist. A nice entry, with a beautiful presentation. Could be a finalist!

Song 8: The Carburetors – Don’t touch the flame

The Carburetors are next on stage with their retro rock tune ‘Don’t touch the flame’! There’s a lot of fireworks and effects on stage – I guess to add to the performance. This is a bit outdated and doesn’t stand out in my opinion. Nevertheless, it’s good to see a variety of music in MGP.
