Tonight was the grand final of Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 which saw 14 artists compete to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm and the winner was Ira Losco with the song “Chameleon(Invincible)”. She will now go on to represent Malta at Eurovision this May in Stockholm.
The event was a grand spectacle for Maltese television who put on a very impressive show, with interval acts from Junior Eurovision Winner Destiny, and last year’s Maltese Eurovision representative Amber.
Ira topped the televote and won over 3 of the 5 jury members, defeating nearest rivals Brooke with “Golden” into second place, and Franklin with “Little Love” into third place. ESCDaily were live at the event and managed to catch up with Ira before tonight’s final where she gave a message to our readers in Europe and Australia.
This will be the second time that Ira will represent Malta, with the first being in 2002 in Tallinn with the song “7th Wonder” where she finished 2nd place behind winner Marie N from Latvia. You can watch the performance of her 2016 Eurovision entry here.
This brings the total number of Eurovision entries for Stockholm so far up to five: Albania, Ireland, Belgium, Belarus, and now Malta also. Which is your favourite, you can get in touch via our Facebook page or Tweet us @escdaily.
