Melodifestivalen 2015: Analysis of the first two semifinals

Swedish broadcaster SVT announced the participants for the first two semifinals of Melodifestivalen 2015 this Monday morning. In this article you can find more information on the first 14 artists for next year’s biggest preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest and what they have done in the past.

Melodifestivalen 2015: Deltävling 1, Göteborg 7th of February 2015

1. Jessica Andersson – Can’t Hurt Me Now

In 2003 Jessica Andersson represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in Riga, as part of group Fame. They placed fifth in Latvia with the song “Give Me Your Love“. Since then Jessica has appeared in four editions of Melodifestivalen. Her most recent attempt was in 2010 with the song “I Did It for Love“. This year, her song is written by Aleena Gibson and Fredrik Thomande.

2. Behrang Miri feat. Victor Crone – Det rår vi inte för

Behrang Miri took part in Melodifestivalenlast year (2013) with the song “Jalla Dansa Sawa”. They lost to Anton Ewald‘s “Begging” at Andra Chansen. At that time, Oscar Zia participated as backing. Behrang Miri will do a ‘duet’ with Victor Crone. The song is written by Albin Johnsén, Måns Zelmerlöw (rumored to take part solo as well), Tony Nilsson and Behrang Miri himself.

3. Dolly Style – Hello hi

Dolly Style consists of Molly, Holly and Polly. They claim their song is about getting people to socialize, saying hello to each other and being happy. The song is written by former MF-participant Jimmy Jansson, Emma Nors and Palle Hammarlulnd. Based on their looks, they go for a act in stead of a song.

4. Molly Pettersson-Hammar – I’ll Be There

Molly Pettersson-Hammar got the fourth place in the 2011 Swedish version of Idols, when she was just 15 years old. She hasn’t released any singles since then, but now she is back with a song written by Lisa Desmond, Tim Larsson, Tobias Lundgren, Gavin Jones and Molly herself. For the tabloids: Molly is the ex-girlfriend of Robin Stjernberg, who represented Sweden in 2013.

5. Rickard Söderberg & Elize Ryd – One By One

Rickard Söderberg is a opera singer who has starred in many musicals in Sweden. And here comes the twist in this duet: Elize Ryd is the lead singer of metal band Amaranthe. What will they give us with the song “One by one”, written by Elize Ryd, Jimmy Jansson (again), Karl-Ola Kjellholm and Sharon Vaughn.

6. Daniel Gildenlöw – Pappa

Daniel Gildenlöw is best known in Sweden as a member of the band Pain of Salvation. Four years ago, in 2010, they took part in Melodifestivalen with the song “Road Salt“. This time he is going solo, he composed and wrote the song “Pappa” himself.

7. Eric Saade – Sting

One of the biggest names competing next year is Eric Saade. He placed third in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with “Popular” and he came third in Melodifestivalen one year before that with “Manboy”. He also hosted in the greenroom in 2013 and got some attention when he called Petra Mede a #MILF. This time, he’s returned to the music.

1. Mariette – Don’t Stop Believing

31-year-old Mariette Hanssonc finished fourth on Swedish Idol in 2009. MaryJet has toured with Ace Wilder the last year and wants to reboost her carreer through Melodifestivalen 2015. The song “Don’t stop believing” is written by Miss Li and Sonny Gustafsson.

2. Linus Svenning – Forever Starts Now

Linus Svenning placed fifth at this year’s Melodifestivalen with the song “Bröder“. His follow-up single “Dansa Sakta“ did not do as well as his MF-hit. He will perform a song written by Aleena Gibson, Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad and Fredrik Kempe.

3. Emelie Irewald – Där och då med dig

Emelie is one of the less well-known names that have been announced today by SVT. In 2011 she took part in Swedish talent show True Talent, finishing fourth. She has written and composed this Swedish song herself.

4. Magnus Carlsson – Möt mig i Gamla Stan

Magnus Carlsson has taken part in Melodifestivalen many, many…. many times. As a solo act, as a part of Barbados or with the group Alcazar. But he never got to go to Eurovision. His most recent attempt was in 2007 with “Live Forever“, placing fifth in his semifinal and not qualifying for he next stage. The song is written by Thomas “Euphoria” G:son and Lina Eriksson.

5. Samir & Victor – Groupie

A surprise act next year will be the duo with fashion blogger Viktor Frisk and reality TV star Samir Badran. Last summer they came up with a Swedish hit single “Success“, and they want more of it, with a song by Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad, Kevin Högdahl, Maria Smith and Viktor Thell.

6. Neverstore – If I was God for one day

Neverstore is a punk rock band. Since their start in 2000, they have released four albums. Their most recent single “The Greatest Gift” came out one month ago in October. The song is written by Thomas G:son (again), John Gordon and Jacob Widén.

7. Marie Bergman & Sanne Salomonsen – Nonetheless

Marie Bergman has represented Sweden three times in the Eurovision Song Contest. Between 1969 and 1972, she was a member in the pop group Family Four, which represented Sweden at the contest in 1971 and 1972. Two decades later in 1994, she performed a duet with Roger Pontare, opening the contest of 1994. Sanne Salomonsen is a Danish singer, who has reached the final of Melodifestivalen in 2005. The song is written by Andreas Stone Johansson and Allison Kaplan.
