Moldova: Preselection format shortened down for 2017

Moldova has decided to shorten down its format for O Melodie Pentru Europa. Instead of two semi finals and a grand final, broadcaster TRM now announces that there will be only one semi final.

A live audition round is scheduled for the 21st of January in front of an professional jury. The best fourteen acts will advance to the next stage, being the semi final on the 24th of February. Six acts will then drop out, giving us a field of eight for the national final. This final takes place one day later, on the 25th of February.

Participants for the audition round have not been reported yet. TRM has called out for submissions, open until the 18th of January.

Bad streak

Moldova will be looking to break their bad streak of three years in a row without qualifying for the Grand Final. Before this streak, Moldova had reached the Eurovision final on eight consecutive occasions.

Last year in Stockholm, Lidia Isac finished 17th in her semi final with the song “Falling Stars”. Isac tried to represent Switzerland this year, but did not reach the national final.
