Bookmakers: Norway comes closer, but Israel still favourite to win Eurovision

Bookmakers Eurovision

At the start of the Eurovision 2018 week, the bookmakers still have Israel as their favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. However, Alexander Rybak from Norway is coming closer to Netta Barzilai as we come near to the broadcast of the actual shows.

Netta Barzilai from Israel has dominated the chart of the bookies from early in the season up until today. Since that moment, Norway’s former winner Alexander Rybak has climbed. He rose from ninth place in the winner market, to the second spot.

In our talkshow The ESCDaily Show, Netta Barzilai and Alexander Rybak were also called out as the two favourites to battle for the gold next Saturday. Professional gambler Daniel Gould mentioned them as having the best Eurovision stories this year. He also thinks Czech Republic has a good chance, however.

Strong rehearsals from Netta Barzilai and Alexander Rybak

Alexander Rybak from Norway, often criticized for his allegedly “thin” song, climbed up the ranks due to strong rehearsals. The staging has come alive and he himself is a great performer. The only reason why Netta Barzilai from Israel has been able to fight him off, is that her own rehearsals were also strong. Despite the fact that she had to remove the looper from her performance, she is still the steady top favorite for Eurovision victory.
