Preview: The Netherlands in Eurovision 2015

In this new rubric at ESC Daily, we will take a look at next years Eurovision Song Contest. What can we expect from each participating country? In today’s preview we will feature the plans in The Netherlands.

What do we know so far?

Eurovision is alive and kicking in The Netherlands after the success of Anouk and especially The Common Linnets. Broadcaster AVROTROS has achieved this revival by selecting these national big names internally. We already know that for Vienna 2015 the broadcaster will once again decide who to send without holding a national final. By the end of November, there will be more information on the Dutch act for 2015.

Possible names

In the Dutch showbiz there are already some names being rumored. Pop and soul artist Alain Clark seems to be the most important candidate, maybe accompanied by his father on stage or in production of a potential song. AVROTROS has confirmed in national newspapers that he is one of the artists that they are currently talking with. Dotan Harpenau, born in Israel, is another candidate. He is currently ranked high in the Dutch charts with the song ‘Home‘. Also rumored by national newspaper Algemeen Dagblad is former The Voice of Holland-coach Trijntje Oosterhuis, who might go to Vienna with a song written by Anouk, made together with other women, including Edsilia Rombley (ESC ’98 en ’07) and Glennis Grace (ESC ’05), calling themselves the Ladies of Soul.

Chances at Eurovision

If The Netherlands stick to their great camerawork, one of the main reasons of their second place in Copenhagen, then they should be able to get a good result once again. However, the Dutch are still walking on a thin line. Their negative record of not making the final is still kept in mind. Let’s hope for The Netherlands that they will not end up in a ‘Calm after the storm’ and continue to send quality to the Eurovision stage.
