Düsseldorf 2011: Raab, Rakers, Engelke to host

NDR has just announced that the hosts of Eurovision 2011 are Anke Engelke, Judith Rakers and Stefan Raab.

As previously speculated, and now NDR confirmed, the hosts that will present the contest in front of 35.000 spectators will be Anke Engelke, Judith Rakers and Stefan Raab. The trio will present the 2011 contest in English and French to the European public and the three-way team, similar to the presentation in 2010, will be presenting the semifinals and final of 2011.

NDR has also confirmed that NDR-music expert Peter Urban will once again be the commentator for Germany.

Engelke grew up in Canada and began her career at the age of twelve as a presenter on radio and television. Also, Engelke is an experience singer and has been singing for more than twenty years in a soul band. The European public will know of Engelke through various acting awards including awards from the European Film Awards and the Berlin Film Festival.
Anke Engelke spoke of her role; “What a great honor and pleasure to host the ESC. I’m not just since the Grand Prix in 1974 big ABBA fan, but also for more than ten years my friends and family for internal ESC-point award in charge. “

Judith Rakers is one of the faces of the most successful news program in Germany. In NDR television she hosted, together with Giovanni di Lorenzo, the Bremen radio talk show “3 nach 9”. Before that she hosted the “Hamburg Journal” on NDR television and worked as a radio host and TV writer.
“As a child it was a compulsory program at home, in the study, we celebrated with wild Grand Prix parties and now I am in the hosting team and I am to be part of it. I’m so happy!”


Last, but certainly not least is Stefan Raab! He is well known to Eurovision fans as he has already taken part various times: in 2000 he performed “Wadde hadde dudde da?” in Stockholm plus in 1998 and 2004 he took part as a composer and lyricist. In 2010 Raab played a huge part in the German victory.
Besides Eurovision, Raab has hosted many entertainment shows at ProSieben and said “I was already in many functions of Eurovision and I am very happy.”
