The last three winners of Eurovision only got to the contest, after losing in a previous national final first. This year, many artists with a similar track record will try to follow in their footsteps. In this episode we highlight Lindita Halimi from Albania.
Linda Halimi was born in Viti, Kosovo. She took part in the third edition of Ethet (Albanian Idol) and reached the Top 10. In 2006 she won the competition of Top Fest, in which she took part twice. Between her first participation in the Albanian national final and her successful attempt in this year, she also took part in the final season of American Idol.
Festivali i Këngës 53
‘S’të fal’ is the title of the song that Lindita Halimi sang around Christmas 2014. She wrote the music and lyrics of the song for Festivali i Këngës 53 herself and came pretty close to victory in Albania with a third place:
The Bojken Lako Band finished in second place. However the clear winner was Elhaida Dani, who closed off the final of Festivali i Këngës 53. Her winning song ‘Diell’ was later changed into ‘I’m alive’ and reached the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna.
Lindita at Eurovision
After taking part in the fifteenth and final season of American Idol in 2016, Lindita returned to Albania to take part in Festivali i Këngës again. This time around, she did go on to win the competition with the song ‘Botë’, which she will perform in Kiev in English as ‘World’.
This time, Lindita only took care of the lyrics of her song. The music has been composed by Klodian Qafoku. This marks the second time that he participates in the Eurovision Song Contest. Qafoku also wrote the Albanian song in Athens in 2006, ‘Zjarr e ftohtë’. Gerald Xhari, also known as Big Basta, helped Lindita with the lyrics. He has written lyrics and produced songs for many Albanian, Kosovo, Macedonian and Montenegrin artists.
