The last three winners of Eurovision only got to the contest, after losing in a previous national final first. This year, many artists with a similar track record will try to follow in their footsteps. In this episode we highlight the NAVI band from Belarus.
Naviband are Artem Lukyanenko and Ksenia Zhuk and will represent Belarus in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Story of My Life. This happened after their victory in the Belarussian national final, in which they also took part the year before.
The Belarusian national final took place on 22 January 2016. Ten songs participated in the competition and the winner was selected exclusively via a public televote. The song ‘Heta ziamlia’ by NAVI took part and finished in fourth place.
5,423 people voted for the song by Artem Lukyanenko and Ksenia Zhuk, which they composed together. It came nowhere near Ivan and his wolves in the winning song ‘Help you fly’.
NAVIBAND at Eurovision
Naviband won the right to represent Belarus in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest after winning the national selection earlier this year. Their entry, Story of My Life, will be the first entry for Belarus in their native language: Belarusian.
“This year our nation is 800 years old. For us it is symbolic and meaningful, because we want to tell the history of our country, our culture and traditions through our song,” the duo tells about that special feature of their song.
