Tonight in Romania, Selecţia Naţională 2012 selected Mandinga as the Romanian representative in Baku! Moments ago, the folk group won this year’s Romanian National Final with “Zaleilah”. Therefore, Mandinga will represent Romania in Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Romanian television show brought not only fifteen completely different songs, but also an overload of commercials to the screens of local and international viewers. It made the show a little harder to follow, even though the staging and presentation was done quite professionally. Not all participants vocally reached a proper level, but that fact did not go unnoticed with the Romanian audience either. In the voting, three of the stronger performances easily distinguished themselves from the others.
Mandinga took an early lead, but was then quickly recovered by Electric Fence, who took the jury vote with a great distance. After a few moments of confusion the televotes were revealed and only then it became clear that Mandinga won the preselection after all. Their song Zaleilah is a smart mixture of typical Romanian summer dance in the style of Inna and Alexandra Stan, and folky trumpet and bagpipe tunes.
