RTVS’ program director, Andrej Miklánek, has confirmed that Slovakia will be withdrawing from the 2012 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. RTVS has decided it will focus on other entertainment shows in the near future.
Local website medialne.sk reports that the broadcaster wants to use their budget for other purposes:
“We promise that we will prepare more interesting shows than the Eurovision Song Contest. We will broadcast Legends of pop soon, and after that, other big show in spring”, stated Miklánek.
Slovakia has had its ups and downs in the contest recently, where they almost withdrew last year after two poor results in the contest. In 2011 the sister act “TWiiNS” represented Slovakia but failed to make the final.
