Hungary: Spoon 21 qualify for semi finals of A Dal

A couple of big names have made it through to the semi final stage of A Dal, the preselection show in Hungary for the Eurovision Song Contest. Boyband Spoon 21, Oláh Gergö with his band Roma Soul and Benji qualified after the first show on Saturday.

Several familiar names took part in the first quarter final of A Dal 2017. Top favorites are Spoon 21, who were superfinalists in 2015. Their song “Déak” is already a beginning radio hit in Hungary. The song title is a reference to the famous “Déak Ferenc Square”, an important meeting point in the center of Budapest.

During this first quarter final, Spoon 21 finished only in third place, one point behind winner Roma Soul. Oláh Gergö (superfinalist in 2016 and semifinalist in 2015) is part of the group Roma Soul. Another qualifier, Viki Singh, participated in A Dal last year but did not come past the quarter final stage. Benji was a semi finalist last year and needed the televote to qualify again this time.

Below you see the line-up of the participants in the first quarter final. The qualified acts for the next stage are listed in bold:

  • Benji – Karcok (36pt, televote qualifier)
  • Calidora – Glory (30pt)
  • Csondor Kata – Create (32pt)
  • Henderson Dávid – White Shadows (37pt)
  • Rocktenors – Ösz (33pt)

After each performance, the four members of the jury awarded points between 1 and 10, and the people at home did the same through the App Vote. Those five scores added make up the results of the show, and the top 5 qualified for the semi finals. From the remaining five songs, one will still qualify through a televoting round at the end.

This was the first of three quarter finals in Hungary’s preselection. Next week will be the second quarter final, and in February the competition continues with two semi finals and the final on February 18th.
