Stockholm 2016: Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede to present

Petra Mede and Måns Zelmerlöw will host the 61st Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm. The announcement was made today by Swedish broadcaster SVT.

Mede presented the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 in Malmö; she was the only host in that year. Before that, she was a presenter at Melodifestivalen 2009. She has also hosted her own TV show, the Petra Mede Show, as well as Guldbaggegalan, the Swedish movie awards. Mede is well-known in Sweden not only as a television host, but also as a comedian.

Last year’s Eurovision winner Mans Zelmerlöw is, apart from his music, also well-known as a presenter in Sweden. He presented Melodifestivalen in 2010. Between 2011 and 2013 he hosted Allsång på Skansen, a popular summertime sing-along show. Before winning the Eurovision Song Contest last year in Vienna, he had participated in Melodifestivalen several times.

“I’m so incredibly happy to be part of the Eurovison Song Contest once more and to be doing it together with Petra Mede, whom I consider an outstanding host and also one of the most delightful people I know” says Måns Zelmerlöw.

“[Mans] is extremely professional,” said Petra Mede at the press conference, “so the one to be worried about is me, and what I’m going to wear. It’s like when I once dared to try a rollercoaster for the first time and someone then – when I’m standing there euphoric of happiness – comes and tells me: ”You can go one more time, and this time together with a gorgeous guy!”.

Executive Producer Martin Österdahl added “Viewers in Europe will recognise Petra Mede from her acclaimed effort in 2013 and Måns Zelmerlöw as the defending champion. With their capability we can build on recognition and deliver something unexpected that Europe hasn’t seen before”.
