Sevak Khanagyan wins Depi Evratesil in Armenia

The Armenian preselection show Depi Evratesil has been won by Sevak Khangayan and the song Qami. After two semi finals and one grand final on Sunday, Sevak has gained the Armenian ticket for Eurovision 2018.

The much anticipated Depi Evratesil final did not bring much tension. Sevak Khanagyan started the show and stayed on top of the scoreboard from beginning to end. He won both the jury vote and the televote with ease. Rock band Nemra came second with 18 points, still far behind the winning song “Qami”.

Sevak Khanagyan; winner of Ukraine’s X-factor

Sevak is Armenian but does not reside in Armenia. He is one of the new singing stars of Armenian music. He won Ukrainian X-factor in 2016. All across Armenia, Russia and Ukraine, Sevak Khanagyan is well-known. He took vocal lessons at a performance school in Moscow. He has been all over Eastern Europe with his band and as a solo artist.

“Qami” is a simple ballad with a classic build-up structure. Sevak Khanagyan sings it in the Armenian language. His vocals during the national final were strong, especially in the choruses. While the staging and camera work was simple, it fit the performance and ticked all the necessary boxes.
