Sweden: SVT reveals new voting format for Melodifestivalen

SVT announced today that a new voting format would be used for this years Swedish preselection, Melodifestivalen 2011.

The voting format will remain 50% jury, 50% televote as per previous years, however the eleven Swedish juries will be abolished in favour of eleven international juries. These juries will give out 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 points in the usual manner, to make up a total of 473 points.

For the televote, the new system sees songs receive the percentage of the available 473 points allocated to the televote in proportion to the number of telephone and SMS votes received. Therefore a song receiving 14% of the televote would receive 66 points.

The first semi final of this years Melodifestivalen will be held on the 5th February in Luleå.
