SVT has just announced the six cities that will host the Melodifestivalen competition in February and March of 2017. All cities have hosted a Melodifestivalen show before.
The final will once again be held at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, while the 2013 Eurovision Arena in Malmö has also received a semi final. Andra Chansen will be organized in the Saab Arena in Linköping. Relatively lesser known cities Vaxjö and Skelleftea will both host a Melodifestivalen show for the fourth time in history.
“It’s always fun to come back to the experienced cities that want to be hosts again. They know what it means and are excited to stage the shows and raise the bar yet another notch” said Anette Helenius, project manager for Melodifestivalen.
The set-up for Melodifestivalen will most likely not be changed from last season. In 2016 there were four semi finals with seven songs each, out of which two qualify for the final in Stockholm, and two for the Andra Chansen show in Linköping. The first competing artist for Melodifestivalen 2017 are indie-band Les Gordons.
The Melodifestivalen 2017 schedule looks like this:
04/02/2017 – Gothenburg (Scandinavium)
11/02/2017 – Malmö (Malmö Arena)
18/02/2017 – Växjö (Vida Arena)
25/02/2017 – Skelleftea (Skelleftea Kraft Arena)
04/03/2017 – Linköping (Saab Arena)
11/03/2017 – Stockholm (Friends Arena)
