Today, Swiss public broadcaster SRF has announced how the nation’s next representative for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm will be chosen. Just two months after this year’s national final, the search begins.
Again, German-language broadcaster SRF jointly with Rumantsch-language broadcaster RTR invites candidates to upload their potential entries via the official online platform staring from September 28th until October 26th. After submissions are received, an expert jury and online users will vote for the best 10 entrants to qualify for the following round in the selection process.
In the second stage of the selection, those 10 acts will be joined by another six representing Swiss-French broadcaster RTS and three from Swiss-Italian broadcaster RSI. Just like last year’s system, the 19 chosen entries will perform for an expert jury, whereupon the best six will then proceed to the live show scheduled for 13 February.
During the national final, held in the Bodensee Arena in Kreuzlingen, the six candidates will present their entries and, in addition, a popular cover song. The deciding vote will be a 50/50 split between the jury and television viewers.
Mark your calendars! Who will fly the Swiss flag in Stockholm next year?
