Ukraine: “The visual package is great, they have it all”

It has been a long time since the host nation won the Eurovision Song Contest for a back-to-back victory. And despite being enthusiastic about the song ‘Time’ for Ukraine, our Ukraine-expert Sadie Trent does not think a victory will happen in 2017.

“90 percent of the songs chosen so far are ballads, so this rock song might stand out,” Sadie says in our podcast Scout Around. “The visual package is great, they have it all. The only thing that they have against them is that they are from Ukraine. The whole attitude towards Ukraine, how they organize the contest, that might harm their chances. People think that Ukraine is not able to host it again.”

“Of course, the jury will still vote professionaly,” Sadie explains her views. “This is something that might influence the televote. The public has taken more notice of the struggles this year. I hate to be a downer on the situation, and I hope they don;t, but the public might not vote for Ukraine in May.”
