Czech Republic: Unlikely to return for Baku

Information coming from the Czech broadcaster Česká Televize suggests that, contrary to recent reports, the country will not be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

Rumours surfaced almost immediately after this year’s contest that the Czech Republic would make a comeback in 2012 and according to the fansite eurocontest.cz, the Czech Republic were even included in the EBU’s provisional participants list for Baku.

It would appear as though those rumours can now be laid to rest though as a spokesperson for ČT, Ladislav Stich, has suggested that there is no intention of the broadcaster returning to the contest and that there is no funding left in their annual budget anyway.

The Czech Republic are one of the least successful countries to have taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest. Having participated three times, they have finished last in the Semi-Final twice and second-last once. ČT last took part in 2009 and decided to refrain from taking part in Oslo 2010 citing a lack of interest in the country and a low amount of viewers.
